How to Use the PaperCut Printers

UM-Flint now has multifunction printers in all of our open labs!


 

Intended Audience

This Quicknote is for the benefit of faculty, staff, students, alumni and other affiliated members of the University of Michigan-Flint. 


Requirements

To follow this Quicknote you most have a current valid affiliation with the University, have access to your LAN account, and a valid Mcard which is advised but not required.

Registering Your Mcard

Some users will need to associate their card, if you need to do this you can follow the steps below to associate your card.
  1. Swipe your Mcard on the new printer.
  1. When the message "Your card is not known in the system" appears click Yes.
  2. Type your uniqname on the touchscreen.  Click Yes.
  3. Type your LAN password on the touchscreen. Click Done.
  4. Click Confirm to associate your Mcard.
  5. Your card is now associated.

Printing to the Printer

  1. On the application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) on the computer you are working on select one of the following queues from the print settings menu, and click print.
    • Black and White: MAIN on umf-papercut
    • Color: MAIN-COLOR on umf-papercut 
  2. Swipe your Mcard at any Papercut printer to login, black and white and color jobs release from the same printers. 
  3. Check in the upper right corner of the screen for your uniquename to verify that you have logged in successfully. 
  4. An unsuccessful swipe will list badcardswipe as the logged in user your sent prints will not show up.  
  5. Swipe your Mcard again for a successful login.
  6. You should now see the document show up in the queue on the touch screen.
  7. Highlight the document you wish to release
  8. Then click print.

Scanning and Sending to Your Email

  1. First load the desired documents into the tray on the top of the printer or lay them on the glass.
  1. Swipe your Mcard to login the printer
  2. Press the Services Home button located towards the upper left, outside of the touch screen
  3. Load the desired documents into the tray on the top of the printer or lay them on the glass.
  4. Once here click the Email option
    • Your university email will automatically be added to the To: field.  You can ONLY send to your own email address.
  5. Then press the Start Button located on the lower right corner, outside of the touch screen.

Making Copies

  1. First load the desired documents into the tray on the top of the printer or place them on the glass.
  2. Swipe your Mcard to log in to the printer.
  3. Then press the Services Home button located towards the upper left, outside of the touch screen
  4. Click Copies
  5. Load the desired documents into the tray on the top of the printer or place them on the glass.
  6. Make any edits you would like to the settings.
  7. Use the keypad to enter the number of copies you would like to be made.
  8. Finally press the Start Button located on the lower right corner outside of the touch screen.

Forgot your Mcard?  No Problem!

  1. Instead of swiping your Mcard to access your prints click "Alternate login" on the touchscreen.
  2. Type your uniqname on the touchscreen.  Click Yes.
  3. Type your LAN password on the touchscreen. Click Done.
  4. You should now be able to see your print jobs, access the copy function, or scan to email.

Additional Information

  • If you do not swipe your card properly or there is an issue with the machine reading your card it will log you in under “bad card swipe.” To Fix this simply log out or wait for the timer to auto log out and then try and swipe your Mcard again.
  • Also if the printer has gone into a sleep mode you may have to press the energy saver button to wake it. This can be discerned if the energy saver button is glowing.
