Forwarding Email from @umflint.edu Address Using Outlook Web App or Program

This Quicknote will provide you with step by step directions on how to forward your emails using the Outlook Web App, Outlook 2007, 2010 and 2013.

We do not recommend forwarding mail to another account as this may result in a loss of mail.  If you do decide to forward your mail to another account, UM-Flint is not responsible for missing or lost mail.

Intended Audience

This Quicknote is for the benefit of the faculty, staff, and student members on campus.

Requirements:

To follow this Quicknote you will need to have a current affiliation with the university and have access to your LAN account. As well as one of the above mentioned versions of Outlook, or access to the Outlook Web App (email.umflint.edu).

Configure Forwarding/Redirecting for Outlook Web App (email.umflint.edu)

  1. Login to your Webmail: https://email.umflint.edu.
  2. Click Options (located at the top right of your screen just below your name).
  3. Click Create an Inbox Rule.
  4. Click New.
  5. Select in the When the message arrives drop down: My name is in the To or Cc box.
  6. Select in the Do the following drop down: Redirect the message to….
  7. Enter the E-mail address, that you would like to forward the emails to, at the bottom of your screen in the To -> field.
  8. Then click OK.
  9. You can click More Options. You can add any exceptions here.
  10. Finish the walk through to name the rule and save the rule. Your E-mail will now be forwarded to your other E-mail account.

Configure Forwarding/Redirecting in Full Outlook Program

Outlook 2010/2013

  1. Make sure Mail is selected in the list on the bottom left of the screen.
  2. Click File in the top left.
  3. Click Manage Rules & Alerts.
  4. Click New Rule in the E-mail Rules tab.
  5. Click Apply rule on messages I receive.
  6. Click Next.
  7. When prompted with This rule will be applied to every message you receive. Is this correct? Click Yes.
  8. Select the Forward it to people or public group.
  9. Click the underlined people or public group in the step 2 field.
  10. In the To -> field type the E-mail you would like it forwarded to and click OK.
  11. Then click Next.
  12. Choose any exceptions you may have and click Next.
  13. In the step 1 field enter a Name for your Rule so that you will recognize it.
  14. In the step 2 field make sure there is a check mark next to Run this rule now on message already in Inbox and Turn on this rule.
  15. Click Finish.

Outlook 2007

  1. Make sure Mail is selected in the list on the bottom left of the screen.
  2. Click Tools in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
  3. Click Rules and Alerts from the dropdown menu.
  4. Click New Rule Under the E-mail Rule tab.
  5. Select Check Messages When They Arrive from the third block of options entitled Start from a Blank Rule.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Under Step 1: Place a checkmark next to sent to people or distribution list.
  8. Under Step 2: Click on people or distribution list and type the e-mail address of the account you are currently logged into (the one you are forwarding) in the box next to the To: field.
  9. Click Ok.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Under Step 1: Place a checkmark in the box next to forward it to people or distribution list.
  12. Under Step 2: Click on people or distribution list and type the address in which you would like the mail to go to in the blank next to the To: field.
  13. Click Ok.
  14. Place a checkmark next to delete it.
  15. Click Next.
  16. Step 1: Create a Name for your Rule so that you will recognize it.
  17. Step 2: Place a checkmark next to Run this rule now on message already in Inbox and Turn on this rule.
  18. Click Finish.
  19. Click Apply.
  20. Click Run Rules Now (Found above actions in the rules and alerts window).
  21. Place a checkmark in the boxes of the rules you would like to run.
  22. Next to Run in Folder you can change the folder in which to run the rule (This is handy if you have multiple folders within your account that you would like to move mail from).
  23. Click Run Now.
  24. Click Close.
  25. Click OK.

To Delete a Rule

  1. Click the Rule to highlight it and click the X next to Details to delete.
  2. Click Yes.
