How to Use the EZProxy

Following this Quicknote assumes that you have a connection to the Internet, know which browser and version you are using, and know what your uniqname and LAN password is. To find out which browser and version you are using, open the browser, go to the help menu and choose About Internet Explorer, About Google Chrome or About Firefox.

Intended Audience:

This Quicknote is for benefit of faculty, staff and students who would like to use Library resources.

Requirements:

In order to access and use EZProxy you will need to have a current affiliation with the University and have access to you LAN account.

To accept cookies in Internet Explorer 9.0 or higher

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click the gear icon (located on the upper right hand corner of the window)
  3. Click Internet Options
  4. Click Privacy
  5. Click Advanced
  6. Under First-Party Cookie and Third-Party cookies select Accept or Block

To treat EZProxy as a trusted site in Internet Explorer 9.0 or higher

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click the gear icon (located on the upper right hand corner of the window)
  3. Click Internet Options
  4. Click Security
  5. Click Trusted sites
  6. Click Sites
  7. Uncheck the box "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone"
  8. Add http://libproxy.umflint.edu to the list

 

To accept cookies in Google Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome
  2. Click the icon with the three vertical dots in the upper right hand corner
  3. Click Settings
  4. Click the Advanced button at the bottom of the page
  5. Click on the Content settings section located under Privacy and Security
  6. Click on the Cookies section
  7. Toggle the top section so it displays Allow sites to save and read cookie data

To treat EZProxy as a trusted site in Google Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome
  2. Click the icon with the three vertical dots in the upper right hand corner
  3. Click Settings
  4. Click the Advanced button at the bottom of the page
  5. Click on the Open proxy settings section located under System (Please refer to the picture above for the following steps)
  6. Click Security
  7. Click Trusted sites
  8. Click Sites
  9. Uncheck the box “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone”
  10. Add http://libproxy.umflint.edu to the list

 

To accept cookies in Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox
  2. Click the icon with the three horizontal lines in the upper right hand corner
  3. Click Options
  4. Click the Privacy & Security tab
  5. Click the Remember History drop down
  6. Select Use custom settings for history
  7. Check “Accept cookies from sites

To treat EZProxy as a trusted site in Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox
  2. Click the icon with the three horizontal lines in the upper right hand corner
  3. Click Options
  4. Click the Privacy & Security tab
  5. Click the Remember History drop down
  6. Click the Exceptions... button
  7. In the Address of website bar, type in http://libproxy.umflint.edu
  8. Click on Allow and click Save Changes

To Access the Databases:

Once you have configured the settings for your browser and version. Return to the list of databases on the Thompson Library website at (http://lib.umflint.edu) or the Electronic Reserves login page at http://libproxy.umflint.edu:2048/login

  1. Enter your uniqname and LAN password at the authentication screen above
  2. Click the login button to continue
  3. The selected database should appear
