Connecting to MGuest

Last Updated: Jun 26, 2017 09:51AM EDT

Intended Audience

This Quicknote is for the benefit of users not affiliated with the university, but require temporary access to the Internet while on our campus. All faculty, staff, and students should use eduroam for the best wireless experience.

We have created this guide as a general support for all operating systems.

What are all these networks?

  • eduroam
    • The network (SSID) eduroam is a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. This allows students, researchers, and staff from participating institutions to obtain internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions.
  • Setup your Wireless
    • This is only to help people with Laptops (not phones or tablets) get automatically configured properly to connect to eduroam. If you have a university owned laptop (such as PT student-issued laptops) DO NOT use this.
  • MGuest
    • Every Wi-Fi device owned by NON-UM-Flint affiliates can gain one day access to Wi-Fi.  Also, once game consoles are registered, they can connect to MGuest for one year. Game consoles are unable connect to other university wireless networks because of the advanced security used on these networks.
    • This SSID does not support streaming services, such as Netflix, Hulu, youtube, or streaming of any kind.

Connecting to MGuest

  1. In the list of wireless networks available to your device, select MGuest.
  2. Wait a moment while your system connects. Once it is connected, you will be prompted to enter further information within the web browser to register your connection.
    • If you are not prompted automatically, launch your web browser and access any web page to be redirected.
  3. To connect as a guest user, click the Agree & Connect button.
    • You may read the Terms of Use by clicking on the drop by arrow
  4. You will be redirected to the homepage once connected.
    • After your access has been activated, you will have 24-hours of access to MGuest before having to register your connection again.
