Finding Your Mac Address on Your Console

This Quicknote will direct the user on how to access their console's MAC address on some common gaming consoles.

Intended Audience:

This Quicknote is for the benefit of all UM-Flint individuals who would like to register and connect their gaming console to the MGUEST wireless network

Requirements:

To follow this Quicknote you will need to have an active affiliation with the university and a gaming console connected to view its information. You will also need the information located the quicknote Registering and Connecting your Console for Wireless Access for instructions to connect your console to the MGUEST wireless network

 

Finding your PS3 MAC Address:

  1. Turn on your PS3
  2. Scroll to Settings  (2nd from left)
  3. Scroll down to Network Settings
  4. Select Network Settings
  5. Select Settings in the Connection Status list
  6. Scroll down until you see MAC address

Finding your PS4 MAC Address:

  1. Turn on your PS4
  2. Scroll to Settings (2nd from left)
  3. Scroll down and select Network
  4. Select View Connection Status
  5. Scroll down until your see MAC Address (Wi-Fi)

Finding your Wii U MAC Address:

  1. From the Wii U Menu, select System Settings
  2. Using the left stick select the Internet icon and press the A button
  3. Select View MAC Address and wait a moment for the MAC address to be displayed

Finding your Xbox 360 MAC Address:

*With the Xbox 360 you will need to connect to MGuest in order to get the MAC address. Upon this initial connection you will not successfully connect to the MGuest network. Once you register your MAC address from a PC you will be able to successfully connect.
  1. From Main Menu navigate to Settings
  2. Highlight System and click A
  3. Scroll down to Network Settings and click A
  4. Scan for the wireless network called MGuest
    • If necessary click X to force the system the scan.
  5. Scroll over to MGuest and Click A.
  6. If prompted to confirm connecting to an unsecured network click yes.
  7. If prompted with a warning about logging all users out in order to test your network connection click yes. -Remember this test will fail until you register.
  8. After the test Highlight Configure Network and click A.
  9. Scroll over to Additional Settings tab.
  10. Arrow down to Advanced Settings and click A.
  11. Write this MAC address down adding colons after every 2 digits.  Example 0017FA79FC85 becomes 00:17:FA:79:FC:85.
  12. Once you have received the message that your console has been registered, you can return to the XBOX menu and run the connection test for MGuest which will now complete successfully.
  13. If you do not have access to a laptop to register the MAC address please bring the MAC address and your Mcard to the ITS Helpdesk.
  14. The MAC address will be displayed in the left column.
  15. Now that you have the MAC address you can connect to the MGuest wireless network using a laptop (NOT THE XBOX GAME CONSOLE).   Follow the instructions to register a game console and enter the MAC address including the colons.

Finding your Xbox One MAC Address:

  1. Turn on your Xbox One
  2. Scroll over to My Games & Apps
  3. Select My Games & Apps
  4. Scroll over to Settings
  5. Select Settings
  6. Scroll over to Network
  7. Select Network
  8. Scroll over to Advanced Settings
  9. Select Advanced Settings
  10. The MAC address for both wired and wireless should be displayed.
